Amtrak plans to restore daily Empire Builder service next week for the full route between Chicago and Seattle/Portland, Ore. BNSF Railway Co. has finished repairing track that has been closed because of flooding in North Dakota.

On July 17, the Empire Builder will resume service to stops in eastern Montana, North Dakota and western Minnesota. On July 18, westbound Empire Builder service will resume for the full route, starting with the Chicago departure.

However, the station and boarding platform in Minot, N.D., will remain closed due to flood-related damage, Amtrak officials said in a service notice. Service will resume to the station after repairs are completed in August.

“Amtrak and the predecessors of BNSF have together operated the Empire Builder since 1929, and no one can recall as much flooding and disruption on the route in these 82 years,” said Daryl Pesce, Amtrak’s general superintendent.
