The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) plans to raise some fares on Sept. 1 to offset increasing costs of providing transit service, agency officials said in a prepared statement.

Part of the increases will support some service restoration on 10 bus lines and the MAX Blue Line to help relieve crowding, they said. At the request of riders, a new 30-day pass also will be introduced.

The fare hikes include a 5-cent increase in some zones’ adult single fares; a $1 increase for youth/student monthly passes; a $1 increase for an adult seven-day pass; a $2 increase for an adult 14-day pass; and a 25-cent increase for one-day passes.
