GO Transit completes improvements to Clarkson Station

On Friday, Ontario officials and GO Transit President Gary McNeil marked the completion of a $14 million project (in Canadian dollars) to improve the Clarkson Station in Mississauga, Ontario.

Begun in March 2010, the project included expansion of a pedestrian tunnel, and construction of new stairs and elevators, a new platform canopy, new shelters and a covered mini-platform, GO Transit officials said in a prepared statement.

The facility “is one of the busiest stations across our system,” said McNeil. “The improvements we have made to this station will make our passengers’ experience more convenient and comfortable.”

The upgrades will provide better access to a new track added in 2009 to accommodate 12-car trains. In addition, the project will improve peak period service for the 60,000 commuters who use GO Transit to travel in and out of downtown Toronto, agency officials said.

The Government of Canada covered $7 million of the project’s cost; the province of Ontario contributed the remainder.
