Today, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority’s (MARTA) board is scheduled to approve a contract with URS Energy & Construction to provide design-build services for the Atlanta streetcar project, agency officials said in a prepared statement.

The project is a cooperative effort between the city of Atlanta, the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District and MARTA. The 2.6-mile line, which will run through Atlanta's business, tourism and convention corridor, is expected to serve as a catalyst for millions of dollars in new residential, office and retail development, MARTA officials said.

Also today, the board scheduled to consider the award of a vendor contract to initiate a program to install security cameras on MARTA’s entire fleet of trains, buses and mobility vans. All revenue vehicles are expected to be outfitted by 2014. The $16 million camera system will be funded by MARTA’s capital budget.
