Last week, Metrolink added rail service in Orange County, Calif.

Four new weekday trips now serve passengers between Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo and Fullerton, making all stops along the Orange County Line, Metrolink officials said in a prepared statement.

Also on the line, four trips have been added on Saturdays and Sundays between Los Angeles and Oceanside, Calif.

The additional trips are part of the Measure M Metrolink Service Expansion Program. Measure M is the half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements that was renewed by voters in 2006 and includes $420 million to enhance Orange County’s rail system.

Through the program, Metrolink also has added parking at the Tustin and Irvine stations and Fullerton Transportation Center. In addition, safety enhancements have been completed at 52 grade crossings throughout the county, leading to multiple quiet zones, agency officials said.
