The U.S. Postal Service has issued a stamp to commemorate New York City's Grand Central Terminal, which marks its 100th anniversary today. Available for purchase nationwide starting today, the stamp illustrates the terminal's main concourse under the constellation ceiling. The stamp "captures both the universal appeal and excitement of travel, and the architectural grandeur that is uniquely New York," said U.S. Postal Service Northeast Area Vice President Richard Uluski in a prepared statement. The first station master received the keys to Grand Central Terminal on Feb. 1, 1913, and the first train left the station after midnight on Feb. 2, 1913, according to MTA Metro-North Railroad, which manages the terminal and is marking its 30th anniversary in 2013.
The terminal's anniversary is being celebrated today in New York City with a full day of ceremonies and activities featuring public officials, community members and celebrities.
