NCTD, contractors agree on Sprinter service changes

The North County Transit District (NCTD) late last week executed a supplemental agreement with its contractor Veolia Transportation that coincides with the relaunch of Sprinter light-rail service.

The agreement calls for new procedures for communicating critical information between Veolia, its maintenance subcontractor Bombardier Transportation and NCTD, and the early identification of risks impacting Sprinter operations and maintenance, agency officials announced in a press release late last week.

In addition, as part of efforts by NCTD and its contractors to restore service as quickly as possible, Veolia and Bombardier have agreed to continue to direct costs relating to the service interruption and resumption.

Sprinter service resumed last week. NCTD took Sprinter out of service March 9 after the California Public Utilities Commission found irregular wear patterns on non-powered center axles during an inspection conducted in late February.
