UTA finishes rail expansion project two years early, millions under budget

On Saturday, the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) plans to celebrate the opening of the Draper TRAX Line, marking the end of the agency's FrontLines 2015 project.

On Saturday, UTA will provide entertainment and host family activities at each Draper TRAX Line station. Then on Sunday, the 3.8-mile line will begin regular service, UTA officials said in an online post.

The extension will run from the Sandy Civic Center Station to the new Draper Town Center Station. Once a quiet farming town, Draper is a growing community of about 45,000 people, UTA officials said.

Draper is the final segment of the FrontLines 2015 project, which has added more than 70 miles of new rail lines to UTA's system in less than seven years. The project was completed two years early and $300 million under budget, agency officials said.
