North County Transit District to issue RFP for Solana Beach station development

The City Council of Solana Beach, Calif., has endorsed a request for proposals for a development project at the North County Transit District's (NCTD) Solana Beach station.

The proposals will address re-purposing the station and developing a 1.5-acre adjacent site at the corner of Lomas Santa Fe Drive and North Cedros Drive, NCTD officials said in a press release.

Plans call for a mixed-use development compatible with the Cedros Design District and nearby residential neighborhoods. The project will include construction on land near the station for options such as office, retail and restaurant space, and an underground parking structure to support transit and commercial development needs.

NCTD officials anticipate issuing the RFP in November. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2015's end.

"This project will set the standard for future joint development that NCTD embarks upon with community partners," said NCTD Executive Director Matthew Tucker.
