DART begins South Oak Cliff Three Line extension

Today, Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) and Dallas city officials will officially launch the South Oak Cliff Three Line extension.

The project calls for extending the DART Blue Line 2.6 miles from Ledbetter Station to the University of North Texas at Dallas. The line will feature two stations — one at Camp Wisdom and one at UNT Dallas — as well as a redesigned Ledbetter Station, which currently serves as the southern terminus of the Blue Line.

Early construction is under way and the line is scheduled to open in late 2016, three years ahead of the previously scheduled 2019 opening.

DART's Blue Line runs from Ledbetter Station north to the VA Medical Center, downtown Dallas, Mockingbird Station, northeast Dallas, Garland and Rowlett. The extension to UNT Dallas will complete the agency's current light-rail expansion program, bringing the total length of the system to 93 miles.
