Virginia rail department slates meeting for multi-modal alternatives analysis

The Virginia Department of Rail and Transportation (DRPT) will host a public meeting on March 26 to solicit input on the Route 1 Multimodal Alternatives Analysis project.

The meeting will include a presentation on findings to date, including transit ridership projections, a traffic analysis and the development of land use scenarios, DRPT officials said in a press release.

The study is examining a range of transit, roadway, and supporting pedestrian and bicycle options along a 15-mile section of Richmond Highway (U.S. Route 1). The study area extends roughly from the Huntington Metro station near the Interstate-95/I-495 Capital Beltway interchange in Fairfax County to Route 123 in Woodbridge in Prince William County. DRPT expects to complete the study in summer.

"As we move forward, we will complete a funding analysis and an implementation plan," said DRPT Director Jennifer Mitchell.

DRPT is directing the study in coordination with Fairfax County, Prince William County, the Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment and the Virginia Department of Transportation.
