TriMet enhances service to reduce crowding, wait times

The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) recently spent $5.5 million to improve all MAX light-rail lines and many bus routes to speed up service, reduce wait times and boost reliability, agency officials announced.

As of this week, the Green, Red and Yellow MAX lines, and the agency's 12 busiest bus routes will have 15-minute or better service extended into evening hours on weekdays, TriMet officials said in a press release.

The $5.5 million is in addition to $5.2 million the agency spent on service enhancements during the past 12 months. The agency also anticipates completing $1.6 million worth of service improvements in spring 2015.

TriMet's frequent service network carries about 58 percent of its ridership.
