The Aurora Urban Renewal Authority selected two developers for a transit-oriented development (TOD) project along the Regional Transportation District of Denver's FasTracks system.

Mile High/Koelbel — a partnership between Mile High Development and Koelbel and Co. — will develop a 21.5-acre site known as the Regatta Plaza, following community input to be gathered over the summer.

The companies will formalize their agreement with the authority over the next 45 days, according to a statement issued earlier this week by the city of Aurora, Colo.

George Thom, chief executive officer for Mile High development, called the area one of the best sites for TODs along FasTracks.

"This is the southern entrance to our city and a highly visible stop along the Aurora Line/I-225 Rail," added Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan in the statement. "The redevelopment that is to come will provide new and vibrant housing and live-work choices in a unique urban environment connected to everything."

The TOD will serve as a catalyst site for a mixed-use retail, office and residential development, city officials said.

In February, the city received requests for proposals from three applicants.
