L.A. Metro debuts videos to encourage people with disabilities to ride

The Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority (L.A. Metro) last week announced plans to launch a series of videos to educate riders with disabilities about the agency's services.

The videos are meant to help inform those with disabilities how to get around via public transportation so they feel safe and comfortable on L.A. Metro's buses and trains, agency officials said in a press release.

"With 100,000 wheelchair boardings per month, it's very important to make sure that people in wheelchairs, and people who have other mobility challenges, have access to our system," said L.A. Metro Chief Executive Officer Phillip Washington.

The videos will be posted on L.A. Metro's Riders with Disabilities web page. Additional videos will follow over the next few months, until all three major videos and 19 vignettes are posted, agency officials said. In addition to being shared online, the videos will be used at L.A. Metro outreach events, such as the Abilities Expo in February 2016.

The agency also will show the videos when staff members visit organizations serving people with disabilities.
