Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) plans to dispatch extra cars to increase carrying capacity during Super Bowl 50, which will take place Feb. 7 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.On busy travel days before and after the event, BART will work to adjust train lengths on lines that serve San Francisco International Airport and Oakland International Airport, agency officials said in a news release last week.The agency anticipates the highest ridership Jan. 30 and Feb. 3 through Feb. 6.In addition, BART will deploy more station agents, police officers and supervisors. If demand warrants, staff may set up tables to sell BART tickets at certain stations.For its part, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency has released a guide for navigating roads and public transit during the event.Managing operations during special events is a critical security issue for railroads and transit agencies. During Progressive Railroading's Secure Rail Conference in February, a session will be held to discuss the topic in depth.
