The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) on Monday began a project to install a new escalator at the Waterfront Station in the southwest region of Washington, D.C.
The project marks the 50th new escalator installed since 2011, WMATA officials said in a press release.
Over a two-year period, WMATA will replace three entrance escalators at the Waterfront Station. The agency has contracted KONE to carry out the project.
Each escalator replacement is expected to take 35 weeks to complete, taking into account site preparation, demolition, construction, installation and testing.
