The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority on Monday began pre-revenue service of the Expo Line Phase II.
The news comes as the agency continues to prepare for the May 20 grand opening of the $1.5 billion extension, which received funding from L.A. County's Measure R sales tax, Metro officials said in a press release. The new segment of the Expo Line runs from Culver City to Santa Monica, Calif., and includes seven new stations.The 6.6-mile route marks the first rail project to L.A. County's far Westside since streetcars halted service in 1953.The Expo Line Construction Authority, an independent transportation planning and construction agency, built the extension. Construction began in 2011.
