Atlanta seeks firms to develop land use plan around proposed streetcar extensions

Atlanta will use a $500,000 Federal Transit Administration grant to plan land use around proposed extensions of its streetcar system, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported earlier this week.

Atlanta Beltline Inc. (ABI), which is tasked with advancing various projects along a 22-mile former rail corridor in Atlanta, has issued a request for proposals for firms to work on a strategic plan for short- and long-term land use, housing and economic development along a 16-mile extension of the streetcar line.

The city and ABI are completing environmental assessments for extensions of the city's 2.6-mile streetcar system, according to the RFP.

The land use implementation plan will evaluate existing land use and economic development conditions along the 16-mile corridor. The evaluation will be used to develop an action plan of "transit-supportive regulations, policies, tools or activities to better position these transit segments for federal funding," the RFP stated.

Proposals are due Nov. 4.
