The Evergreen SkyTrain extension in Vancouver, British Columbia, will open Dec. 2.

With construction on the 6.8-mile line complete, TransLink will take over the operation of the system. The agency yesterday launched a public awareness campaign to inform the community and customers about opening day activities, according to a Transport Canada news release.

The Evergreen extension will provide a 15-minute trip between Coquitlam and Burnaby. The line cost 1.43 billion Canadian dollars to build and is expected to serve 70,000 daily passengers by 2021.

"We are focused on ensuring a smooth transition for customers and continue to get ready behind the scenes: testing the extension, planning the community celebration and preparing for bus integration after Evergreen opens," said TransLink Chief Executive Officer Kevin Desmond.
