TransLink wraps up SkyTrain station upgrades

TransLink late last week marked the completion of upgrades to the SkyTrain station in New Westminster, British Columbia.

Aimed at improving capacity, safety and accessibility, the upgrades include a new elevator, new escalators and stairs, and improved lighting. Construction began in spring 2015 and was completed earlier this fall, according to a TransLink press release.

The project cost 12 million Canadian dollars, with the Canadian government providing CA$2.1 million. British Columbia contributed CA$4.2 million, and TransLink covered the remainder.

The New Westminster Station is the third of seven stations on the SkyTrain's Expo Line to be upgraded with funding from the federal and provincial governments. Construction is underway at the Commercial-Broadway, Metrotown, and Joyce-Collingwood stations.
