In January, TransLink's recently opened Evergreen SkyTrain extension provided 30,000 trips on an average weekday.

By comparison, the former 97 B-Line express bus line that largely covered the same route served 10,000 riders per weekday, according to a TransLink press release.

The Evergreen extension opened Dec. 2, 2016. During the line's first eight weeks of operation, it logged 150,000 riders.

The figures suggest that ridership is "off to a good start," TransLink officials said.

Development around stations is expected to have a ridership impact on the Evergreen extension and throughout the SkyTrain network. For example, the opening of a single major development at the Marine Gateway Station boosted Canada Line ridership by 35 percent, according to the agency.

The Evergreen route is a 6.8-mile extension of the Millennium Line.
