The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Rail Division has partnered with 11 local transit systems along the Raleigh-to-Charlotte Amtrak corridor to provide free transit passes for train riders.

Beginning March 18, the "NC by Train" transit pass will be available to passengers on Amtrak's Piedmont and Carolinian trains in certain cities. Participating transit agencies include the Charlotte Area Transit System and GoTriangle.

The passes are aimed at providing riders a "seamless option from boarding the train to their next stop," said Paul Worley, director of NCDOT's Rail Division, in a press release.
