Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) today is breaking ground on the Concord Station Plaza renovation project.
The $6.5 million project calls for adding a raised crosswalk, another bike lane, energy-efficient lighting and an improved "kiss-and-ride" zone for passengers.
The work is aimed at improving pedestrian access to the station, BART officials said in a media advisory.
The project will be paid for through a combination of Proposition 1B bond dollars, Contra Costa County's Measure J sales tax revenue and BART funds.
