NYCT gears up to renovate Brooklyn N line stations

MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) on July 31 will partially close seven N line rail stations in Brooklyn to complete the final phase of a $395.7 million renovation project.

The stations' Coney Island-bound platforms will remain closed until late 2018.

The larger project calls for renovating nine century-old stations and upgrading track infrastructure along the N route's Sea Branch Line. Crews will add new accessibility-compliant platforms, brighter lighting, new stairs and a new coat of paint.

Work began first on the Manhattan-bound platforms and track infrastructure in January 2016. Those renovated platforms reopened May 22.

"When the work is finished at all nine stations and the tracks that connect them, our customers will see brighter, cleaner and safer stations and experience a smoother, more reliable ride, while our mobility-impaired customers will be able to access that part of the Sea Beach line by using new ramps and new elevators,"  said Ronnie Hakim, interim executive director of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Two stations will be brought into full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In addition, four elevators will be installed at the New Utrecht Avenue Station to ease transfers between the D and N lines.
