The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) has released the draft environmental impact statement and environmental impact report for the proposed East San Fernando Valley Transit Corridor.The documents examine two bus rapid transit routes and two rail routes for the 9.2-mile corridor. Each alternative runs north from the Orange Line bus rapid transit route in Los Angeles' Van Nuys neighborhood to Metrolink's Sylmar/San Fernando Station.The Measure M initiative called for $1.3 billion for the project, which is enough funds to build the rail or bus option, Metro officials said in a press release.Los Angeles County voters in November 2016 approved the Measure M sales tax increase, which is expected to generate $120 billion over the next 40 years.Construction is slated to begin in 2021, with an opening date between 2027 and 2029. The agency has scheduled public meetings this month to discuss the project. The public review period for the environmental documents ends Oct. 16.
