Ontario opens Downsview Park GO train station

Ontario Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca yesterday held an official opening ceremony for the GO Transit Downsview Park train station in Toronto.

The station, which began serving riders Dec. 30, 2017, provides a direct transfer between GO Transit's Barrie rail line and the Toronto Transit Commission's (TTC) new Line 1 subway extension.

The station is located on the Toronto Transit Commission's recently opened Line 1 subway extension.

The stop is the first station to provide both GO Transit and TTC service in the same facility, according to a press release issued by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.

The station also is designed to provide access to facilities and developments in Parc Downsview Park and the Keele Industrial area north of Sheppard Avenue West. The stop also is designed to make way for transit-oriented development on the south side of Sheppard Avenue West, according to the TTC's website.

"Downsview Park Station is a huge step forward for our customers, with both GO train and TTC subway services connecting in the same location," said Phil Verster, president and chief executive of Metrolinx, GO Transit's parent agency.

Meanwhile, Del Duca yesterday announced a new fare discount for riders who use their PRESTO cards to transfer between the TTC and GO Transit or the Union Pearson Express.
