The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority's (SEPTA) board late last week adopted the recommended locally preferred alternative from the King of Prussia rail project's draft environmental impact statement. The board made the selection after evaluating more than 30 alternatives for a new rail connection between the existing Norristown High Speed Line and destinations in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. The chosen route, known as the PECO/Turnpike First Avenue alternative, features a north-south design option that shifts the alignment away from residential areas, SEPTA officials said in a press release.With the route selected, the agency can start developing the final environmental impact statement for the King of Prussia project. That document is slated to be issued in 2019.The project would provide a one-seat ride to King of Prussia from either the 69th Transportation Center or the Norristown Transportation Center. The 4.5-mile extension is expected to reduce travel time between Philadelphia's Center City to King of Prussia by about 30 minutes each way. The line, which would include five stations, is projected to provide 9,500 daily trips by 2040.The Federal Transit Administration released the project's draft environmental statement in October 2017.
