New Jersey Transit's board yesterday approved a proposed alignment for the Hudson-Bergen light-rail expansion project.The locally preferred alternative consists of a 10-mile, two-track extension of the Hudson-Bergen line from its current terminus at the Tonnelle Avenue station in North Bergen to the Englewood Hospital and Medical Center.The alignment, which was identified in a supplemental draft environmental statement issued in spring 2017, would largely use CSX's northern branch running track, NJ Transit officials said in a press release.The project calls for building seven new stations. The extension is expected to serve 12,370 passengers each weekday by 2030.Meanwhile, NJ Transit's board also approved Kevin Corbett as the agency's next executive director. He'll start the job Feb. 19.Late last month, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy nominated Corbett to the position. Corbett previously served as vice president of cross services at AECOM.
