The governments of Canada and Ontario late last week signed a bilateral agreement that will provide more than CA$11.8 billion for infrastructure projects over the next decade.

The funding includes up to CA$660 million for the Scarborough subway extension in Toronto, according to a press release issued by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.

In addition, the funding package includes nearly CA$1.5 billion for the second phase of Ottawa's light-rail project and Toronto's Port Lands Flood Protection and Enabling Infrastructure project.

The funds will be distributed through the "Investing in Canada" plan, which is providing money for a variety of infrastructure projects, including various public transit efforts.

In total, the Canadian government is investing more than $180 billion over 12 years in infrastructure projects.
