LA Metro unveils 2028 mobility plan

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) has released its Metro Vision 2028 plan, which outlines steps to improve local mobility and quality of life over the next decade.

The plan includes improvements to Metro's state-of-good-repair program to help reduce rail and bus service disruptions. Over the next decade, the agency aims to build a "state-of-the-art, condition-based asset management practice" for maintaining mission-critical assets and upgrading to current technologies, Metro officials wrote in the plan.

The agency also will partner with Metrolink to explore ways to boost the capacity of the regional transportation system.

"The plan also addresses issues directly related to transportation, including housing, safety and security, fares and job creation. Vision 2028 is the compass that Metro will follow in implementing all its projects, programs and services," said Metro Chief Executive Officer Phillip Washington in a press release.

The plan evolved from 17 months of research, discussion and outreach by Metro's Office of Extraordinary Innovation, which was established in 2015 to champion regional mobility improvements.

Separate from the Metro Vision 2028, the agency's board earlier this year adopted the Twenty-Eight by '28 plan, which calls for completing 28 major transportation projects ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Los Angeles.
