BART to add parking at Antioch Station

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) has identified full funding to proceed with plans to nearly double the amount of parking at Antioch Station.

Since it opened in late May, the station has been “a tremendous success” and has pushed the demand for parking far beyond the space available at the facility, BART officials said in a press release. The station’s daily ridership is 3,050 trips while the projection prior to opening was 2,270 trips.

The station currently has 1,006 parking spaces and another 800-plus will be added under the plan, BART officials said. The agency plans to convert a plot of BART-owned land east of the current parking lot into additional spaces.

The proposed $16.4 million project will be funded by the Contra Costa Transportation Authority, BART, Metropolitan Transportation Commission and East Contra Costa Regional Fee and Financing Authority.

BART will now work on the environmental impact report and design. Construction is slated to begin in fall 2019 with the lot opening in fall 2020.
The plan is expected to be considered by BART’s board in late 2018 or early 2019.
