Port Authority Transit Corp. (PATCO) will mark its 50th anniversary tomorrow by rolling back fares to 1969 prices.On Feb. 15, 1969, PATCO completed its first trip from Lindenwold, New Jersey, to Center City in Philadelphia. From 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. tomorrow, fares will cost 30 cents to 60 cents, depending on the destination.To kick off a year-long customer appreciation celebration to commemorate the golden anniversary, the agency plans to hold an event tomorrow at Woodcrest Station in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., during which PATCO officials will share remarks. In addition, PATCO employees will be staffed at eight New Jersey stations from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. to hand out a commemorative reproduction of the original 1969 timetable.Similar customer appreciation events will be held once a month at different stations, starting next month at Ashland Station in Vorhees, New Jersey.
Owned by the Delaware River Port Authority, PATCO operates 14.2 miles between Philadelphia and Lindenwold. The 13-station line serves more than 10 million riders annually and averages more than 37,000 riders per weekday.
