Metrolink yesterday announced it logged nearly 12 million boardings from July 1, 2018, to June 30, 2019, marking the highest fiscal-year ridership in the Southern California commuter railroad's history.

The new record reflects an increase of 247,000 boardings from the prior fiscal year and eclipses the previous record of 11,796,086 set in FY2008-2009 by 139,270 boardings, Metrolink officials said in a press release.

The milestone marks five consecutive years of ridership increases. Metrolink officials attributed the ridership growth to marketing, fare discounts and a strong local economy.

Metrolink’s ridership growth trend has continued into the new fiscal year. Last month, the system logged nearly 4 percent more riders than in July 2018, with every Metrolink line experiencing ridership growth during the month. Additionally, at more than $3,000, mobile ticket sales in July reached their highest point in any month.
