Construction on Sound Transit's Northgate Link light-rail extension in Seattle is more than 90 percent complete, the transit agency announced yesterday.

Upon project completion in 2021, the 4.3-mile extension will connect riders between Northgate and downtown Seattle through two new underground stations, Roosevelt and U District, and one new elevated station, Northgate.

Construction at Roosevelt Station is more than 95 percent complete. For the past several months, crews have installed escalators at the station, reopened the streets and sidewalks around the facility, and installed bicycle racks and lockers.

Crews now will focus on the station's systems installation.

The extension's other two stations are expected to reach substantial completion in spring 2020, Sound Transit officials said in a press release.
