The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is seeking qualified design-build teams to install elevators and make other improvements in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act at 23 MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) subway stations.
Work at each station will include design and construction of two to three elevators, electrical power upgrades, station communication system upgrades, utility relocation, staircase replacement or construction, and reconstruction of platform edges and boarding areas.
Other work may be required based on the existing conditions at the stations.
Expedited design-build contracts will be awarded to companies based on an evaluation of qualitative factors, as well as cost and completion schedule, MTA officials said in a press release.
“We are going to deliver these accessibility improvements better, faster and more efficiently, not only by requiring design-build, but also by bundling these projects across MTA agencies to take advantage of proximity,” said MTA Chief Development Officer Janno Lieber.
The work is part of the MTA’s 2020-24 Capital Plan, which calls for a $40 billion investment in NYCT’s subway and bus system.
