The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) yesterday announced it will install its One Metro New York (OMNY) contactless fare payment system at 60 MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) subway stations this month.
The OMNY system enables riders to enter the subway system by tapping a contactless prepaid card, mobile phone or smart watch against a payment reader.
This month, the system will be installed at Herald Square, 47-50 Streets-Rockefeller Center, Bryant Park, West 4 Street-Washington Square, World Trade Center and Jay Street-MetroTech stations. OMNY also will be installed at some stations along the B, D, D lines; F, M lines; A, C lines; and the E Line, MTA officials said in a press release.
Following the installation this month, riders will be able to use OMNY at nearly 150 subway stations.
Adoption rates for the system have exceeded MTA’s internal estimates, officials said. The agency logged its 5 millionth ‘tap’, or use, of OMNY in late December 2019.
