Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) yesterday awarded Archer Western Construction a $11.6 million contract to build a new light-rail station in Irving, Texas.

The future Hidden Ridge Station will be located between the existing North Lake College and Irving Convention Center stations on the Orange Line.

The station will be built next to a $1 billion, 110-acre mixed-use development for Verizon Communications Inc. that includes retail and restaurants, apartments, a hotel and office space, DART officials said in a press release.

Funded by the city of Irving, the new station is slated for completion in December.

Meanwhile, DART crews earlier this week began installing more than 300 interactive digital kiosks across its service network.

The kiosks will offer riders real-time transit information, translated information in nine languages, interactive community guides and advertising. The kiosks are also equipped with high-resolution cameras to increase the video monitoring presence for the DART Police Department, DART officials said in a press release.

The first of the kiosks, supplied by Smart City Media, will be installed at JB Jackson Jr. Transit Center in Dallas.
