The San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission (SJRRC) yesterday began seeking public input on a draft environmental impact report (DEIR) for the proposed Valley Rail Sacramento Extension project in California.

The project would expand Amtrak San Joaquins and Altamont Corridor Express (ACE) passenger-rail services to the greater Sacramento area through the construction of six rail stations and track improvements along the Union Pacific Railroad Sacramento subdivision tracks.

The DEIR, which outlines environmental issues associated with the proposed project, will be presented at three meetings tentatively scheduled in April and May. Comments on the report will be accepted via email or mail until May 15.

The project addresses the potential for enabling two new roundtrips of Amtrak San Joaquin service operating on the Sacramento, Fresno and BNSF Railway Stockton subdivisions, as well as an extension of existing ACE service to the proposed Natomas Station.
