Metra on April 4 will begin a project to rehabilitate platforms at the Itasca Station on the Milwaukee District West Line in Illinois.

The project is designed to increase accessibility for riders with disabilities, Metra officials said in a press release.

The 11 weeks of work will be done in phases so that at least half of each platform will be available to riders throughout the project.

The platform rehabilitation is one of the first to kick off Metra's 2020 construction program.

Commuter-rail service reductions related to the COVID-19 pandemic have enabled Metra crews to get an early start on construction, agency officials said.
