The Societe de transport de Montreal (STM) reported steady rail ridership growth in the last several years, according to the agency’s 2019 Annual Report published yesterday.
In 2019, STM logged 283.5 million boardings, an increase of 4.5 percent compared to 2018.
Disruptive incidents, or delays, on the metro system last year also dropped “considerably” due to the reliability of the AZUR rolling stock, awareness campaigns about service disruptions caused by riders and the deployment of transit support personnel at platforms, agency officials said in a press
The annual report also highlighted project process across the system, including for the metro’s Blue Line extension project.
STM has completed the preliminary steps for the project, including surveying work and geotechnical testing. The agency is also beginning the expropriation process and awarding architectural contracts for the design of future stations on the extension.
Meanwhile, STM and the SEPB 610 labor union earlier this week reached an agreement to assign backup cleaning duties to office and professional employees to help step up cleaning practices during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under the agreement, SEPB 610 employees can be assigned, as needed, to clean high-touch areas on trains and at stations.
