Some U.S. and Canadian passenger railroads and transit agencies are gearing up to resume regular service as stay-at-home orders are lifted or modified during the COVID-19 pandemic.

SunRail today resumed regular commuter-rail service in Orlando, Florida, and stepped up train and station cleanings.

To help stop the spread of the virus, SunRail has begun nightly disinfection of train interiors, installed hand sanitizer dispensers onboard trains, and is running longer trains when possible to allow increased social distancing, SunRail officials said in a press release.

On May 17, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) also will restore regular service on its Market-Frankford, Broad Street and Norristown High Speed lines.

Despite increased service, select stations along the Market-Frankford and Broad Street lines will remain closed to riders to allow SEPTA cleaning crews to focus on open stations, agency officials said in a press release.

Meanwhile in Canada, the Societe de transport de Montreal on May 19 will resume regular train service on all metro lines due to lockdown orders being lifted.
