The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) on Aug. 23 will reopen the East Falls Church and Arlington Cemetery stations after months of closure.
East Fall Church Station is reopening ahead of schedule after being closed as part of a project to reconstruct outdoor platforms at four Orange Line stations. Meanwhile, Arlington Cemetery Station is reopening after being shuttered since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dunn Loring and Vienna stations are the last of WMATA’s 91 Metrorail stations to remained closed. They are scheduled to reopen Sept. 8, which will mark the first time all stations will be operating since March 19, when the District of Columbia agency initiated strategic station and entrance closures as part of its comprehensive response to the public health emergency, WMATA officials said in a press release.
WMATA resumed regular rail service on Aug. 16.
Meanwhile, the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority in Austin, Texas, on Aug. 16 also restored its MetroRail commuter-rail service to pre-COVID levels.
