The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) this fall began a two-year project to create and test solutions that will connect riders with transportation options that best fit their needs.
TriMet’s project will address expanding access and improving the function of contactless bank or payment cards, as well as virtual Hop Fastpass® cards.
Under the project, TriMet also will build out its online trip planner and explore opportunities to add information about congestion and other data that will help riders make informed travel choices and improve real-time arrival predictions, TriMet officials said in a press release.
TriMet also will develop a framework for analyzing data to understand how changes in payment and trip planning might increase ridership and decrease traffic congestion.
The project is part of the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Integrated Mobility Innovation (IMI) demonstration program. In March, the FTA awarded TriMet $1.8 million in IMI funding for the project.
