The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) earlier this week announced that its One Metro New York (OMNY) contactless fare payment system is on pace to be installed at all MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) subway stations by the end of month.
Some 458 subway stations of the system’s 472 stations are now OMNY enabled as of last week, with all stations along the G and R lines now completed. More than 10,000 OMNY readers have been installed at subway stations and on buses throughout the system.
The OMNY system has recorded its 30 millionth tap, or use, since it was first rolled out at a handful of stations last year, MTA officials said in a press release.
Payments with OMNY now account for 10% of the overall market share in the system at OMNY-enabled stations.
After OMNY is fully available, the MTA’s MetroCard fare payment card will be eliminated.
