The San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission (SJRRC) earlier this month launched a means-based fare program for Altamont Corridor Express (ACE) commuter-rail riders in California.

The ACE Community Assistance Program (CAP) uses a grant from the California Department of Transportation’s Low Carbon Transit Operations Program to provide up to a 50% discount off regular ACE fare tickets to qualifying applicants.

CAP officials coordinate with community-based organizations throughout the ACE corridor to qualify individuals that meet a certain income threshold to participate in the program.

The initiative is meant to help provide low-income riders access to the ACE service, SJRRC officials said in a press release.
