The governments of Canada and Quebec have announced a CA$500 million financial package to construct an Reseau express metropolitain (REM) at the Montreal-Trudeau International Airport and support Aeroports de Montreal.
The construction of the REM station, an estimated C$600 million project, will be led by Aeroports de Montreal, with financial contribution from the following:
• Transport Canada will invest up to CA$100 million;
• The Quebec government will provide a loan of up to CA$100 million;
• Canada Infrastructure Bank will provide a loan of up to CA$300 million; and
• Aeroports de Montreal will invest up to CA$100 million in addition to reimburse the loans.
The station will provide a connection between the airport and Montreal's transit system and improve mobility, contributing to Quebec's and the rest of Canada's effort to address the threat of climate change, Transport Canada officials said in a news release.
"As Canada looks ahead to economic recovery, transportation and tourism will be vital while we build back better," said Canadian Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra.
