The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) recently approved a nearly $1.3 billion budget for the upcoming 2021-22 fiscal year that incorporates conservative assumptions due to the ongoing financial effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The new fiscal year begins July 1.
Major initiatives stipulated in the FY2021-22 budget include advancing capital improvement projects involving freeways, roads and transit systems in Orange County, California. The budget encompasses all services, projects and programs that are administered by OCTA, and reflects a significant investment in capital projects, OCTA officials said in a press release.
Measure M, also known as OC Go, will continue to fund improvements to freeways and streets throughout Orange County, along with multiple transit programs. The budget calls for nearly $64 million for transit, including $35 million for the ongoing construction of the OC Streetcar, an electric system coming to Santa Ana and Garden Grove, California.
Additionally, approximately $141 million will go toward improving streets and roads, including more than $44 million to provide more traffic capacity.
