Masks mandatory on TransLink trains

As a result of the British Columbia government reinstating mask-use in all indoor public places, TransLink riders now must wear masks while using the Vancouver transit system beginning today.

Masks are also required while riders are boarding or waiting for trains or buses at any indoor or sheltered stations and stops, TransLink officials said in a news release.

Exemptions for the provincial mandate include:

  • people with an underlying medical condition or disability that inhibits their ability to wear a mask or face covering;
  • people unable to place or remove a mask or face covering without assistance;
  • children under 12;
  • employees working behind a physical barrier or within areas designated for employees and not for public access; and
  • police, employees or first responders reacting to an emergency.
