Real-time location and arrival information for greater Baltimore's Metro SubwayLink is now available on the free-to-download Transit app, the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) announced this week.
Active in more than 175 metropolitan areas globally, the app provides vehicle location and offers arrival updates every 15 to 30 seconds along with step-by-step navigation. App users can also receive service alerts and obtain walking directions to each station entrance and elevator location.
Riders will have more options in deciding which train to take and planning for a train's arrival, MDOT MTA officials said in a press release.
The agency started using real-time positioning and predicted arrival technology in August 2020 for the MARC Train. Light RailLink is also expected to put the app into service in spring 2022. The initiative is part of a broader effort to create a seamless door-to-door journey for riders, MDOT MTA officials said.
"The modernization of Maryland’s transit system takes advantage of technology to make our entire network more integrated, convenient and customer-friendly," said MDOT Secretary Greg Slater. "Real-time information on Metro SubwayLink arrivals is a feature riders want and need, and will help make our system more attractive for day-to-day use by residents, commuters and visitors."
