The Metropolitan Council in Minneapolis has authorized a settlement agreement for the Minneapolis Green Line Extension project to establish construction milestones, expend contingency funds and create a dispute resolution process related to construction.

Lunda McCrossan Joint Venture is building the track, stations and structures during the current project phase, to which multiple major elements have been added, including the construction of a barrier protection wall between BNSF Railway Co. freight tracks and light-rail tracks. The addition of a retaining wall for the Kenilworth Tunnel and the construction of the Eden Prairie Town Center Station will meet community priorities, Met Council officials said in a press release.

Construction is expected to finish in 2025 with service launching in 2027. The agency will need an extra $450 million to $550 million to complete the project, which currently costs $2 billion, they said.

“We will exceed the time and budget we initially anticipated,” said Nick Thompson, Met Council's director of transit capital programs. “But we are confident we’re doing what needs to be done to complete this project, to meet community needs, and to address concerns related to adjacent properties, while still capitalizing on the economic development benefits of an infrastructure project of this nature.”
